Why it happens
Hard water carries dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium. When water dries on glass and chrome, the minerals stay behind as white spots and film.
What works
Mineral deposits respond to acidic cleaners, not more scrubbing.
- Spray a vinegar solution or a store-bought descaler on the spots
- Let it sit a few minutes so it can dissolve the minerals
- Wipe with a soft cloth or non-scratch pad
- Rinse and dry completely — drying is the step most people skip
What to avoid
Skip abrasive powders and steel wool on glass and finishes, and spot-test any acid on natural stone, which it can etch.
Keep it from coming back
A squeegee after every shower and a quick weekly wipe make a big difference. Recurring cleaning keeps build-up from ever getting a foothold.
